Urban Sketching

Art Deco Arts (ADA) is partnering with the Australian Art Deco Festival to offer the opportunity to capture the art deco heritage of Leeton. We will meet opposite the Roxy Theatre to stroll down Pine Avenue as far as Jarrah Mall, so you can choose your favourite building to sketch.

ADA is also presenting a free Urban Sketching Demo at Leeton Shire Library, Saturday July 13, 9:30am - 11:30am. Come along and sketch Henry Lawson’s Cottage with a demo from us, then time to sketch your own version with guidance along the way. This is a good way to see if you like the concept, then you may like to join us for the Sunday meet.

We highly recommend you attend the Leeton Heritage Walk offered by the Festival committee on Saturday July 13 at 10am and 1pm. Tickets at their website.

This event is set to bring together like minded sketchers who look to enjoy some time outdoors while taking in their surrounds. Sketching can be seen as a perfect pathway to art, used for relaxation and shared with friends or a nice way to enhance your already established art skills.

ADA Urban Sketching

The Sunrice ADA Urban Sketching gathering was a huge success and is coming back by popular demand! We invite interested sketchers to join us on our next event with 2 hours to immerse yourself in the live experience with some guidance provided. This sketching workshop is for all skill levels and provides everyone with an opportunity to capture the beauty of the urban landscape.

A few tips to consider: Keep it simple. The purpose is to get out and about, with other like-minded sketchers, enjoy yourself and capture your vision of the subject. Materials should be simple too - a small size sketch book, graphite pencil and an eraser are all that is required. The choice is yours, nothing is right, wrong or off limits. Remember the sketch need not be perfect, it is only for your enjoyment. You will have an enjoyable time spent in the outdoors with friends in art. For more how-to on urban sketching, head to urbansketchingworld.com. It has good in-depth information worth reading.

Bring your own favourite materials, sun protection, water, snacks and a comfy chair. Participants that sign up will also receive a more detailed 'how to' on the best ways to approach a sketch, to ensure everyone has the best tips and tricks to start their sketching experience.
